Jesus Calms the Storm

23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
 27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

I don’t know if you looked out the window on Wednesday night as the storm that swept across Melbourne came through. All of a sudden a balmy blue sky was changed to a dark cloud and then came the rain, thunder and huge winds. Combined they were formidable!

I guess I wondered how the disciples would have felt when they were on the Sea of Galilee. It would have surely caused panic and dread. Not somewhere I would like to be if the storm was similar to the one on Wednesday night!

Storms will come our way – it’s a common part of life here on earth. Sometimes they come in the form of challenges in our relationships, in our workplaces or in our health.

The most encouraging part of the story in Matthew is when Jesus says, “Why are you so afraid?” He was saying, “Don’t you believe in who I am? Don’t you believe that I have power over wind and rain, over the storms of life?”

My encouragement to you this week is to have Faith! Jesus is in control – even though you might feel like the disciples in the boat – tossed around by the storms of life.

‘I think I’m in AFRICA!‘ Fundraising Garage Sale
Four of our blokes are heading off to Ghana for three weeks in December to minister with Pioneers. They’re holding a Garage Sale on Saturday the 26th of November to help raise funds. If you have any goods you can donate, please drop them off at the church office before Thursday the 24th. Please email the office for more information.

Wesley Central Mission Christmas Appeal
We’ll be taking a collection up on Sunday the 27th of November for the Wesley Central Mission Christmas Appeal. Please bring non-perishable groceries, holiday foods or personal hygiene products to contribute to this worthy cause. If you want to know more, please email the office.

In particular it confirms the importance of motherhood and fatherhood and seeks to protect children’s biological identity. It has a meaning that we hold deeply for its cultural, religious and social significance. We urge you not to redefine marriage in your party platform to admit relationships to which it does not naturally or historically apply.

A Caring Community

Please do not feel alone in any life problems that you may be experiencing. We have a team who would love to pray with you, no matter what challenge you are facing.

You can either write your prayer request on a communication card from the Info Desk or meet with a prayer team member. They will be waiting at the front of the auditorium after each service.

There is also the ability to make a prayer request from the website or you can email prayer@crosswaynorth.org.au because We Care.
