While Shepherds Watched…
No offence to any shepherds out there, but I think watching sheep day in and day out would be kind of boring. Of course there were wild animals and the occasional thief to keep things lively, but I imagine most nights would have been sharing food and company around the campfire with other shepherds. That was until an Angel turned up.
“Do not be afraid…” Really? Here’s a floating, flying company of the heavenly host who just happened to turn night into the brightest day. What were they singing about? A baby wrapped in cloths laying in a manger who would become the saviour of the world. Luke 2:10: “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.’”
A large part of Christmas is about not being scared because Jesus brings joy and hope. Those shepherds got over their fear real quick and went off to see this baby wrapped in cloths laying in a manger. Who wouldn’t want to overcome fear to see Jesus the Saviour and Lord? Join with us today as we look to the one who Christmas is all about. Jesus. May he bring joy to the world and to your world.
